What is Young Women and the Word?

The Women’s Resource Center at La Sierra University organized the first annual Young Women and the Word Conference, which was held on April 12, 2008, at Campus Hill Church in Loma Linda. The inaugural theme was “Hearing Voices: Finding Your Own.” The project coordinators were committed to empowering and supporting a generation of young women leaders across professional lines.

This event was an original project in the Southeastern California Conference with a hope that other Adventist universities and academies in the North American Division will take up similar projects. Look for upcoming conferences at Pacific Union College, Southern Adventist University, and Oakwood College in 2009 and 2010!

Through Young Women and the Word, the Women’s Resource Center is intent on empowering and supporting young women leaders-our most immediate connections are with women in the church, but in whatever profession they choose we want them to make a real difference in the wider world.

Young Women and the Word is not just for one profession, women clergy, though we are featuring them. But as they mine fresh insights about women from Scripture, they empower women in any profession.

Developing young women leaders will have ripple effects in the church, our local communities, and the wider world. This is why the Women’s Resource Center is restructuring to more intentionally serve Adventist women of all professions, but tightening our focus to primarily leadership development.
